Every year, the same question comes around: what are we doing for New Year’s Eve?
It normally starts innocently enough. Someone asks the question in the group chat, a few ideas are thrown around and everyone agrees that this year, you’re definitely going to organise something.
Then December arrives.
Nobody has booked anything, someone can’t get a babysitter, nobody wants to drive and the chances of finding a taxi home shortly after midnight are looking increasingly slim. Staying in suddenly starts to sound like the easiest option.
But perhaps New Year’s Eve deserves a little more effort.
After all, how many opportunities do we really get to put on our best clothes, sit down for dinner with some of our favourite people and dance our way into a brand-new year?
Bring back the excuse to dress up
There was a time when getting dressed up for New Year’s Eve was part of the occasion. Not just changing out of the clothes you wore all day, but actually dressing up.
A New Year’s Eve Ball is one of those rare occasions where you can go all out without feeling overdressed.
That’s something we’re embracing at Whittlebury Park this year with our black-tie New Year’s Eve Gala Ball and Best of British theme.
So, dust off the suit, wear the dress you have been saving for something special and give yourself a little longer than usual to get ready.
Don’t make midnight the only event
There can be a lot of pressure on those final ten seconds of the year.
But a good New Year’s Eve should be about much more than the countdown.
Starting the evening over dinner gives everyone time to actually sit down together before the music gets louder and the dancing begins.
Our Gala Ball starts with a four-course dinner and wine before a live band gets the dancing underway. A DJ then takes over to keep the New Year’s Eve party going into the early hours, with Champagne ready for the midnight toast.
It means the countdown is still the big moment, but there is plenty to enjoy before and after it too.
Get your favourite people around the table
Christmas can be full of family commitments, work parties and trying to fit everyone in, so New Year’s Eve can be a chance to spend time with the people you really want to see.
If you are planning a bigger celebration, you can reserve a table of ten for your friends and family at our Gala Ball.
And you certainly don’t need to find another eight people if you are celebrating as a couple. Smaller parties can join a shared table and then, once dinner is finished, everyone can head to the dance floor.
Nobody has to be the designated driver
Possibly the least glamorous part of planning New Year’s Eve is working out how everyone is getting home.
Who is driving? Who is booking the taxi? And, more importantly, who is actually going to find a taxi at that time on New Year’s Eve?
Making your celebration a New Year’s Eve hotel stay takes that particular debate off the table.
Our guests can arrive from midday on 31 December, check into their Classic Room and have plenty of time to settle in and get ready before the evening begins.
Then, when the dancing is finally over, there is no journey home to think about. Your room is only a short walk away.
Make a night of it
New Year’s Eve only happens once a year. Perhaps 2026 is the year to stop saying “we’ll sort something out nearer the time” and make a proper occasion of it instead.
Our New Year’s Eve Gala Ball takes place on 31 December 2026 and includes a four-course dinner, half a bottle of wine per person, live entertainment, a midnight Champagne toast and an overnight stay in a Classic Room.
So, whether you are planning a New Year’s Eve party with a group of friends, celebrating as a couple or simply fancy swapping the sofa for something a little more special this year, come and make a night of it with us.
