Northamptonshire countryside venue Whittlebury Park has been chosen as a host venue for the prestigious 2018 regional William Hunt Trilby Tour.
This will be the first time that Whittlebury has hosted this challenging, televised competition, which is widely considered to be the closest experience to a professional tournament for amateur golfers.
The Trilby Tour, now going into its 11th year, will visit Whittlebury on Thursday 28 June as one of 10 regional championships. Sky Sports, which will be televising the tour, anticipates an audience of 3.5 million for the regional championships and international final.
Whittlebury’s 36-hole championship golf course, which dates back to 1905 and once formed part of the Royal Whittlewood Forest, has been chosen by tour organisers for its challenging layout, diversity of the holes and the dedication and commitment the team have shown to making this regional the best one of the season.
Emma Hayes, head of event sales at Whittlebury, said: “We are absolutely thrilled to be partnering with the Trilby Tour and bringing this tournament to Northamptonshire. We handpicked this tournament because we love the concept. It’s all about the experience, from when they sign up right through to on the day when they collect their personalised golf bag and trilby hat! The tour and our values fit hand-in-hand and I am very excited to work alongside the team this year and growing the relationship in future years.”
The regional championship at Whittlebury will be open to spectators, with many diehard Trilby Tour fans attending every year to witness the ‘winner takes all’ competitive format, which culminates in a 3-hole shootout to decide the champion.
Participants and spectators will also have the option of staying in one of Whittlebury’s 254 bedrooms and making use of the on-site facilities, which include an award-winning Day Spa and several bars and restaurants.
